South Space Building Design is a building design studio based in the Illawarra, NSW. We value design that makes sense for the site, the street, and the people living in it. Our designs blend functionality, context and simplicity.
We’re particularly drawn to the complexity of existing buildings – the constraints, the history, the things a client has lived with for years and barely notices anymore.
There’s something satisfying about working within those limits: finding the design that opens up a room, connects spaces that should always have talked to each other, or simply lets more light in. We enjoy a blank canvas too, but renovation is where the most interesting problems tend to live.
We pride ourselves on clear communication throughout the whole creative process.
We relish in problem-solving and love getting creative with every project. We only take on a limited number of projects at a time. That’s deliberate. It means the ones we commit to get the time they need – proper concept design, extensive design development, thorough construction documentation, and attention to the details that matter.
Jarryd is the director and principal designer at South Space, bringing over 15 years of experience in the building and design industry. With a strong background in residential and commercial projects, Jarryd has acquired detailed technical knowledge and extensive experience from his previous roles at established architecture firms in Sydney and London. His expertise is further enriched by the lessons learned from his own client projects over the years.
As the founder of South Space Building Design Studio, Jarryd works directly with clients, both individuals and businesses, on the spaces that hold the utmost importance to them. This venture is not only a natural progression in his career but also a true calling. Jarryd’s dedication to creating exceptional spaces is evident in his collaborative approach, where he understands and appreciates the unique needs and aspirations of each client.
Jarryd lives in the Illawarra with his wife Olivia, two young kids and two dachshunds. In his spare time he enjoys cycling, fishing, brewing beer and hanging out with his family.
